Resolved Question: Vegan culinary school?
I already asked this question yesterday, but I need better results. I need help finding a culinary school that is at least vegetarian. I live in California, but willing to move. I know the famous ones, but I can't afford $15,000 without financial aid. Are there any community colleges out there or even universities with good financial aid? moreOpen Question: College Transfer Fear?
I've been going to a community college, off and on, since fall 2003. I've been wanting to transfer to an Art College, but I'm not sure which area I'd like to pinpoint my studies. I thought I had narrowed things down to animation, but there's also my passion for the culinary arts, graphic design, and art restoration. I'd love to transfer out of state just to try to live on my own for a while, but I have too many responsibilities here at home. I live near Chicago and I've looked at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College, but what if the out-of-state schools offer more? To make matters worse, I'm petrified to send out my portfolio. I've also tried collegeboard.com, but that doesn't really help me.I've been at the jr. college for so long because: 1. my dad didn't want to pay for any university (especially art college), but he's not in my life anymore. 2. I didn't want to waste tens of thousands of dollars at a university and realize I didn't want to go to school for ___ anymore. 3. I have responsibilities at home, and the jr. college is only 15 minutes away in case there's an emergency. I really want to continue my education. I want to earn a Master's degree at least... This costs so much money, which is why I want to be absolutely sure with my decision. I enjoy all the art passions I listed equally. I don't know what to do. moreResolved Question: culinary school what to expect?

Does anyone know of cheap culinary schools or pastry schools on the East or West Coast? All I find are very expensive private culinary schools. There must be something out there that is in a community college or something that is cheaper that 20 or 30,000 yr. Anyone know of any? moreVoting Question: Is it worth going to an expensive culinary school?
Hello, I was recently accepted to the culinary institute of america (an expensive culinary school), for their bachelors degree program in culinary arts. I have recently acquired a job in the kitchen as a prep cook. I am currently working with individuals who went to expensive schools to get their degrees and are getting the same wage as I am. I have obtained a degree from a community college and i am getting paid the same as them. I am aware that its gonna take a while after school to make a lot of money. I really do not mind spending so much money and asking for loans, however I am afraid that I am not gonna be able to pay them off. I was recently looking into attending a more affordable university to get my bachelors, however I am not sure whether this is the best way to go, for the school is only reputable in the area I live around, and I am afraid of not being able to obtain a job easily. I am extremely confused, any help would be greatly appreciated! What should I do? moreResolved Question: what college should I attend?
I live in san diego, and I just graduated...unfortunately I didn't apply for any college...I was planning to attend the culinary institute to become a cheff, but I heard that finding a job as a cheff is pretty hard....I'm also a person with little resources, I can't pay for the institute,... photography is something that I'm interested in too...but I don't know what school I should attend to become a photographer...I was told that I should go to community college first so that I could transfer after that...but I don't know what school I could transfer to after community college in order to become a photographer.... I live in san diego...if you could help me I would really appreciate it moreResolved Question: Is going to an expensive culinary school worth it?

I want to go to Cuyahoga Community College for an Associates degree in science. I want to than go to an Ohio College for a Bachelors in Biology. If I decide to continue I want to go for a Masters in Environmental Science in a college that specializes in this field. If I decide to continue on to a Ph.D. I would hopefully know precisely which field I would like to study. I would also like to know what my options would be for a double major. I need to know what schools are best for these subject matters and what schools are accredited. I need assistance finding Grants, Loans, Scholarships, and any other form of Financial Aid I am qualified for. I am a 19 years old (20 on July 19th) Caucasian male, brown hair and hazel eyes (I heard there is a Scholarship for brown hair). I graduated in June of 2007. I completed two years of vocational training for Culinary Arts while in High school. Please E-mail me with any questions you have in order to further help me out. I have been putting off going for two years now and I know it is now time to start. KyleRyanToth@yahoo.com . Thanks to all in advance! moreVoting Question: Pursuing college and career with a GED?
I am seventeen years old, and currently home schooled. My "Academic Supervisor" told me that I should consider obtaining a GED. 95% of all colleges and universitys will accept those who complete the general equivelancy developement tests, usually upon completetion of SATS and ACTS. If I were to get a GED for myself, I would go to college, of course. If I get high GED and college entrance scores, I may go directly to a four-year institution, or I could first attend a community college to earn credits toward a degree, or earn an associate's degree first and then transfer to another college or university to continue on toward a bachelor's degree. My question was concerning any limitations that may arise, specifically if I will not qualify for certain majors or degrees. For example, below is a list of types of degrees and majors provided at Scott Community College: Computer Science: Computer Programming – Specific Applications. Foreign Language and Literature: Sign Language Interpretation. Personal and Culinary Services: Culinary Arts/Related Services. Business, Management, & Marketing: Accounting, Administrative/Secretarial Services. Health and Clinical Sciences: Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Assistance, Medical Radiologic Technology, Nursing (RN), Nursing – Practical, Pharmacy Assistance. Now is it possible that I would not be qaulified for any of these majors or degrees due to the fact that I only had a GED upon enrollment of this college? All helpful replys are welcomed.(I tried to call them and ask what my options were for someone in my posistion, and he simply told me to go get it and to come in AFTERWARDS to hear my options. To simplify, whoever answered that phone was not at all helpful.) moreResolved Question: Culinary Arts AAS, AA?

moreVoting Question: Can I go back and finish college after dropping out without ACT/SAT scores?
My original intention upon graduating high school in 2004 was to go to the Art Institute of California for culinary art. They didn't require SAT or ACTs, so I never took the tests. I decided not to go to california, and instead studied culinary art at my local community college. I ended up having 2 babies since then, and have dropped out 3 semesters in a row. Last time I had to appeal for financial aid. I have since decided I want to study Nutrition, but most colleges require SAT or ACT scores. My question is what can I do now? I was 15 credits from 2 associates (one in Culinary Art, one in Restaurant Management), and I want to finish but with a degree in Nutrition instead. Will I be eligible for financial aid? Can I even get accepted? moreResolved Question: Community College With Housing?
are there community colleges that have a culinary program and offer housing to the students? moreVoting Question: Trying to get into a new college?
For the past year, I have been enrolled in a community college that makes me totally unhappy. The original reason I went there, is for a lack of financial support. I got into two universities, but my parents wouldn't co-sign for any loans due to the expensive cost of an average US university, and I got nothing from the Fafsa. So, I went into this community college, not quite so sure where I wanted to go with this. Fast forward a year, I have less, or around a 1.0 GPA in college. I was totally disinterested in the classes, went through a period of depression, and simply stopped attending most of the classes I was enrolled in. This of course, was the failing on my part, and that leads to F's. I have around a 2.5, 3.0 average in high-school, I was homeschooled, and a 28 on the ACT, with a huge record of community service. For the first time, I am excited about school, as I have been extensively researching, and talking with people from two local culinary schools. I have always loved to cook, I feel that the more hands-on approach to learning, instead of sitting in a classroom for hours on end, will help me out a bunch. And, like I said before, I am actually excited. However, how hard is it going to be for me to get in, with a horrible GPA? None of the classes I took in the community college will transfer to any of the Culinary schools, except maybe one, which I got a high B in. They were all general study courses, nothing that the Culinary school teaches. Any advice? I would love to get into one of these schools. moreResolved Question: Is it better get a Culinary Arts Degree from a Community College or and actual Culinary Arts School?
I'm trying to get myself into Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School. My father thinks I should just got my local Community College for my degree and the go to the Culinary Arts school for a certificate. I want to go to the actual cooking school because I feel like I wouldn't a glance if I went to the community college. Anybody when who went to a actual cooking school, how well did you do on find a job? Anybody who went to a community college for a Culinary Arts degree, how well did you do on finding a job? moreResolved Question: To be a chef, do I need a degree from a Cordon Bleu/CIA or is a community college culinary program okay too?
Obviously, the Community College option is much cheaper. And I'm a little worried about graduating with 60k in debt and only being able to find a $10/hr line cook gig. moreResolved Question: College or Military...Need Advise?

My boyfriend and I are seniors in high school. After graduation, I plan on going to a community college then transferring to GMU. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is refusing to go to college and says that he can make a good living without college, particularly in the culinary field. I don't think this is true. I like cooking but me and my mom living together so long it's hard to cook for 2 people and with our hectic schedules it doesn't make it any better. I've thought about being a pastry chef if anything and was wondering if just starting out in classes for being a pastry chef would be kinda crazy cause I don't have that much cooking experience. I was wondering what I need to do to become a food critic? moreResolved Question: Help with gaining experience for a desired career?
I want to eventually own a small coffee/pastry shop, and I am trying to decide which is the best route to take. 1) I thought of attending the community college's Culinary Arts program here in my area, as it seems to have a high rating in this state and it teaches things regarding the food industry as a whole, including espresso and baking stuff, but also the financials, management techniques, and other useful crap. But it's an expensive option that I would need financial aid for. 2) My friend suggested interning somewhere for little/no pay in exchange for experience as a barista. I already have a job that I don't want to just drop (I JUST started it) to find a barista job because all the paid jobs are taken, so part-time volunteering for the direct purpose of experience seemed like a good plan, but I'm not sure... Then, 3) There is a barista training school two hours away that charges $3000 for a 6-day crash course in the business of the coffee industry and learning all the drinks, recipes, and machinery of a coffee shop. The classes are like, 10 AM to 4 or 5 PM or something like that everyday for 6 days. But yeah.... So which is the better option do you all think? Thank you!!! moreResolved Question: I don't know what to do....!?

I am 23 male. I am considering going to a community college for culinary arts. I’m not really interested in becoming a chef, as in being in charge of operations, at least not anytime soon. I would be happy just as a cook or to help prepare ingredients. I probably wouldn’t even initially complain about doing dishes, because while I have a passion for cooking, I love working the kitchen. One might ask why I don’t just work in a fast food restaurant. No, I’m looking at something in a more controlled dining environment. So anyway, this program I’m looking at is a 32 credit diploma. Would this be enough to get started in a culinary career, and then if I want to advance, consider going to a better school? My concern is if going getting an education at a community college is sort of looked down upon by employers. Would it help getting any sort of regular job? I haven’t been able to find work for the past 2 years. Would a culinary diploma from a community college even help with this? moreResolved Question: im interested in becoming a pasrty cheff, ?

I am a senior in high school and i'm not going to lie, I am kind of scared of what is going to be ahead in my life. I am interested in culinary and business technologies. I am great at cooking but I am also very good with computers. I am still not sure what I want to do, so I figured it would be safe for me to go to a community college my first 2 years and then transfer to a university. A lot of my friends hated college at first, but now they love it. Is it really as good as it seems? Please give advice =] moreResolved Question: What kind of job do I need?
I honestly don't know who to ask, so I thought I'd try here. I was a poor student in high school, good good grades on tests and in-class assignments, but very rarely did my homework. I passed my freshman and sophomore year and then when to a vocational school and dropped out of the program for various reasons (I enjoyed the work, but had been lied to about what the course would entail) and started homeschooling with an online academy with plans to drop out all together and get my GED. Getting my GED is not a problem, I'm positive I will pass, as I'm going to take a prep course and take it very seriously. I want to continue my education, possibly going to a community college or something (my GPA score is very low, so I'm thinking I wouldn't be accepted to anything other than a community college) and I honestly have no idea what course to take. At first, I was interested in Library Science but after doing some research I found that I would probably never be accepted into a course. I'm interested in Psychology as well, but I'm not sure what kind of career options a degree in it would provide me. Basically, I'm you're stereotypical liberal arts "slacker". I'm interested in things that most likely wont get me anywhere, at least not in rural Ohio. History, world cultures, library sciences, psychology, theology, the culinary world, ect. However, if you could suggest courses that would be along the lines of ANYTHING I mentioned, or if you know of a course that might go along with that kind of stuff, I would be very very appreciative! I was wondering what average i need to get into the program? It's a college so i know they're going to be more lenient on marks than a University.. But i'm guessing they have a cutoff point SOMEWHERE! Thankyou :)What do you mean ALMOST everyone? My marks this semester are going to be quite low.. i'm willing to say 60s.... I'm been thinking about going to a culinary trade school since I was in 6th grade and I haven't lost my passion. I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm in FCCLA (its a club that has culinary events and competition.) At my school they have this program with the local community college, if your enrolled in high school, you can take up to three college courses. I'm thinking about taking culinary courses at the community college. I've heard that trade schools really aren't that much different and I could get just as good of a job with community college courses. is this true? so after I graduate high school I would probably have at least 5 college credits in culinary arts I'm not sure what they'll be yet. do you think this would be a good idea or should I just go the normal route and get a job and start saving to go to an actual trade school. I'd really like to work in a five star hotel as a head chef or patisserie. moreResolved Question: im really not enjoying college please help?

I wanna attend CT Culinary Institute to learn some basics of cooking and stuff like that to open up a restaurant. I will also be taking buisness management classes at local colleges or even community colleges. Do you know how much the tuition of CTCI is? It didnt say online, so I looked it up on google, and it said: Application fee: $100. Tuition: $26,755 (Culinary Arts); $17,955 (Pastry Arts); $34,427 (Italian Culinary Arts). Program-related fees include $100 for insurance; $630 for tools; $460 for uniforms; $200 for technology; $65.40 for tax So if I want to do culinary arts, do I have to pay the program related fees seperately or is it included in the tuition of $26,755? Is this even the right tuition? moreResolved Question: TRANSFER TO CULINARY INSTITUE OF AMERICA?

I have the best books from the best chefs (Daniel Boulud,Anthony Bourdain.ect) and know a lot but I feel its not what I know its who I know, and I wanted to know what I can do and where can i go mingle with some Chefs and Cooks. btw I live in the Atlanta area.
