Open Question: Toxic Shock Syndrome?

Yesterday I wore a high absorbency tampon for 12 hours. I was at a BBQ and I just never had to go to the bathroom so I didn't take it out until much later. Last night I started getting stomach pains and this morning when I woke up I had a headache and muscle aches and I felt really lightheaded. I also feel a little nauseous. I just took my temperature a little while ago and it was 99.3. The only thing is, when I have my period I get lightheaded a lot, and nauseous...so that could be why...but it doesn't explain the low fever. Could it be TSS? Should I give it more time to see if the symptoms go away? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :] more

This morning at about 2 am I woke up with a stomach ache which I thought meant I just had to pee so I got up and went to the bathroom, but after peeing, my stomach still hurt and it seemed like it had gotten even worse. I sat on the toilet for a few minutes. I finally had a good amount of very watery diarrhea(sorry if tmi). When I say watery, I really mean that it was mainly liquid with a few pieces of poop in it. I went back to bed afterwords and the aches kept coming. I was literally curled up in a ball from my stomach hurting so badly. It started to feel like I was going to throw up so I ran to the bathroom and sat on the toilet(because of previously having diarrhea) and put a trash bag in front of me. The feeling of needing the throw up went away after a few minutes but my stomach was still hurting. It was hurting down the sides of my stomach and on my lower stomach. I really thought I might have been going into labor with how bad the pains were, and when I went to push the poop out, it felt like my uterus was cramping up on me. But then I had diarrhea again(this time it was not runny, but was still very soft) and my stomach seemed to be ok. I went back to bed and all was fine until about 3 hours ago. My stomach has been hurting off and on since after eating a late lunch. It hasn't been as bad as early this morning, but it still hurts. Could I be coming down with the stomach flu or something? I've had pain on my right lower abdomen for about 3 days now. It isn't severe pain, and sometimes occurs on my lower back. When I first got the pain, I thought it was because I was going to get my period straight after, but I then realised it would be too early to get my period. The pain sometimes strikes around my pelvic area, my lower back or my appendix/fallopian tube area. i had my second miscarriage. i started bleeding on june 19th. a few days later i passed the sac and the bleeding slowed way down. and all my symptoms disappeared except the stabbing pains in my breasts. then this last week or so i have been extremely exhausted and have started to have the pregnancy symptoms again( burning stomach in the morning, twitching in stomach, back ache, increased urination) . a few days ago the bleeding turned black or grey and there was VERy little. then this morning i awoke with sever pains in my lower left abdomen, just like when i miscarried, but much worse. the pains go to my lower left back and down my left leg. it hurts worse when i move and standing upright is EVEN WORSE or when i push my stomach out its worse then too. when i have to pee it hurts much worse. on the 19th i was tested to make sure it wasn't a tubal pregnancy, but being i was only 5 weeks they couldn't say for sure. i dont know what to do now. is this all normal after a miscarriage? my last one was in april at 3 weeks and 4 days, and this one i was 5 weeks 1 day. 42 minutes ago and please dont tell me to see the doc, i already have and will again tomorrowkay e...asshole! more

Voting Question: Had mild, crampy pain yesterday (23 weeks). What could it have been?

I ended up calling my doctor yesterday afternoon, but I had to leave a message for the nursing department. They ended up calling me back just to tell me that they were closed and that I could call the on-call (who just happened to my doctor) if I was still concerned. Well, by the time I got their message with the number I was feeling much better so I didn't end up calling. Anyways, it started as cramping in my back that felt like period cramps (I always got them in my back as opposed to my stomach). I thought they felt like period cramps because they came in waves. They got a little worse until it was just a dull ache in my back that radiated around to my lower abdomen and even through my hips and into my leg joints...so weird! When I got off work, I drank a bunch of water and walked around a bit, because that seemed to help. My job requires me to sit at a computer all day, so I wondered if that might have something to do with it. I could also be dehyrated and I've heard about round ligament pain, sciatic nerve problems, etc. It just seems like there's a million things it could've been and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me to put my mind at ease? It's completely gone now and I've been feeling regular movements, but should I call my midwife just in case? more

Hi all =) Firstly how are you all?? OK well this morning when I got up I had a very heavy feeling in the bottom of my stomach which made me think that maybe baby had dropped. Since mid morning I've had a dull backache in my lower back...the kind of ache that doesn't stop you doing anything but where you don't know what to do with yourself or how to get comfy. Had a nap and when I woke it had gone but went to make a cup of tea and it started again...it's constant and getting the occasional sharp pain at the top and bottom of my bump (not through the middle). Do you reckon it's just the way baby is laying/pushing down or (wishful thinking) could it be the very early stages of labour starting? Going to have a bath now to see if that helps! i began to have lower abdominal pains earlier today, about 9 hours ago. at first i thought maybe it was just menstrual pain, because i usually get those cramps before my period rather than during. but the pain has moved up to around my belly button and a little above the pain has not ceased since it began, only when i curl into a fetal position or stand completely still does it slightly ease up. it almost feels like a flu stomach ache. i feel like i do when i have the flu and get diarrhea, but at the same time its more of a muscle cramp feeling. the pain has been all around my belly button and lower abdominal area. it hurts to walk, as if with every step i take something inside is bouncing. i took a hot shower, which didn't help, i ate pickles, which didn't help (pickles usually make ease my stomach). it feels like i'm trying to digest a bunch of rocks. i'm a sixteen year old female. i have two weeks exactly until i'm supposed to start my period, i haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary for my usual diet. i'm thinking maybe a kidney stone(s). if you have any idea of what it might be, even if you agree with me, please let me know. thanks so much more

Okay. So I'm a level 8 gymnast at my high school and every once in a while I hurt my bak doing something but lately (now that it's summer and there are no workouts yet), my back has been killing me! I have to take like 4 ibuprofen a day to ease the pain. My mom said that working out and conditioning your muscles can help make the back stronger and get rid of the ache, but I don't know. I think a big problem that is causing it, is the way I sleep. I can only fall asleep on my stomach and that hurts it the most, but its the only way I feel comfortable (that is until the morning, when I can't even move out of my bed). My question is: Are there any therapy methods that could help my situation? It's mainly my lower back on the right. more

Sometimes after I eat a meal, a few minutes later I'll get kind of a stomach ache but it's more like period cramps. Just under 4 weeks ago i had a 'water infection' I now have the same symptoms again the lower back ache in my right side and the lower right pain in my stomach. It is not my appendix that has been removed. I am not sure now whether it could be a water infection as i have been drinking lots more water and cranberry juice recently anyone have any advice?Last time i saw the nurse the doc wont see me for a water infection! when I was born I was born with something that made my stomach hurt everyday until a certian age. When I became an infant the doctors said it was gone but the aches never went away since I was born I am 19 yrs old and is still haveing the same problem. Doctor says its depression but I know its not cuz when i was little I didnt even know what depression was I was always a happy kid. Ok, this is a long one. For the last 2 weeks i have been feeling the most strange sensation in the lower left hand side of my stomach, like popping bubbles or butterflies, then 2 days ago the popping had moved to the front of my stomach underneath my belly button. I have been feeling nauseous for around 4 weeks now, but not just in the morning, it comes and goes through out the day. I have been having terrible mood swings and my boobs see bigger to me and are quite tender, more aching than anything. I have not had a period in 4 months, This may be because i have the contraceptive implant, however, i have had it in just under 3 years now and my periods have always been some what regular up to now. I took a pregnancy test a week ago today and it said negative. Then i went to the doctors this morning and i told him my situation, he lay me down and had a feel of my belly but said he couldnt feel anything unusual? He asked me what i was like going tot he toilet, i explained i went alot more frequant than usual and he put it down to a water infection and prescribed me some tablets. I have had quite a few water infections before and i know this is DEFINATLY not it. Now for the last hour or 2, the area where the popping bubbles were is really starting to hurt when i slightly press it, and if i bend over i feel a great amount of pain and its bringing me close to tears, i dont know what else it could be but i'm not happy with the doctors oppinion. I have searched online for any other explanation but all the websites (20+ of them) have said it can only be pregnancy? Ok, a bunch of recent stuff, some of it probably completely unrelated: ~Never been diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure I have acid reflux, as well as lactose intolerance. I mean, those aren't too hard to figure out on your own, right? ~Went to the doctor and got an xray, but the letter said it was normal, but about a month ago I found a small, hard bump on my clavicle/collarbone. I plan to call the doctor back and ask more. ~Very weird stomach pain, like a deep heartburn that's been constant for 3 days (but subsided today). It only got worse upon eating, it made me nauseas too. ~Been very achey and tired too for a long time, getting more severe over the past 3 days. I slept for 16 hours the other day without once stirring, and still being forced to drag myself out of bed for work. And this wasn't "sleeping for too long" tired, I had set alarms so I wouldn't sleep that long and just could not wake up, I was so exhausted. Also, lately (for about 2 weeks), my collarbone and shoulders have been hurting. And for about 2 hours the other day my knees down to right above my ankles (shooting down my shins) were in agony. The pain was deep, and no warmth, movement, or change of position would do anything to help. I just waited until it went away. ~Recently, the heel of my right foot (not on the bottom of my foot, but the back) has been aching to the point that I can't wear shoes with backs. Pressure doesn't do anything to hurt it, but pushing fairly hard causes pain. ~Back pain for years now, but they think it's bad posture... ~Very recently, my sternum has been slightly more prominent too, nothing noticeable, but I can feel a difference, like a buldge right in the middle. ~Also, been wheezing a bit and having shortness of breath when lying down. ~Headaches a lot lately, which isn't weird for me, I get them a lot, but they have been pretty vicious migraines with all the lovely light/sound-sensitivity, nausea, and throbbing agony that comes with the package. ~Sinus pressure, coughing, fever, and general cold symptoms a few weeks back, nothing big there, but also plugged up ears inducing vertigo. ~Weakness and dizziness lately too. Other info that could be useful: ~Currently on darvocet (narcotic, like vicodin) painkillers as needed, not taking them lately (for bad cramps - also attempting to figure out severe period issues that could give this a tmi rating). ~19yrs old, female (hopefully right? i mean with the ovarian reference and all...lol), average weight, low physical activity, no trauma, no smoking. I know it was really long, so amazingly grateful to those who actually managed to read the whole thing, and even more if you respond, AND tons more if the response is useful :)Yea, sorry about that with the vertigo. I just mentioned the symptom to my mom and that's what she called it. I apologized, it really did deserve a google beforehand! Also, I do have a GYN appt in sept (cuz its my first, and I'm insanely nervous. this is who my doctor recommended as "the BEST" like that will help...) Thanks for all the answers so far, really I'm much less stressed and worried than it sounds, more like frustrated that things keep happening and my doctor seems to just love prescriptions rather than examinations. That and all the medical-record-related documents they keep sending me have all been lost in the mail, other than the one letter regarding the xray results. I am in the process of switching docs. Ok last month me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex on the last day of my period and he did come inside me...I have a very regular period sorry if tmi.. Normally Before my period: Breast tenderness 2-3 days before period, mood swings, stomach cramps and that will be it During my period: 1-3 heavy cramping day 3 or 4 huge blood clot passes day 4-6 light bleeding light cramping but not unbearable pain day 7 light bleeding ending off in brown discharge. This time: Before Period breast soreness...So painful...more now than ever...(when i would hug anyone i would cringe in pain cause they would just rub it in the wrong way) this happend about a week before it came on. For about 2+ maybe even 3 weeks I have been having bloddy discharge. A week ago my stomach hurt so bad when I woke up in the morning I had to continue sleeping on my back because I couldn't stand to sleep on my stomach and side. I was also having stomach aches throughout the day. That lasted for almost the whole week. All while still having the bloody discharge getting heavier. I still have the discharge, and am due to get my period tomorrow. How am I supposed to know if its my actual period, or just the discharge continueing. Could I be pregnant? I have been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for 5 months, and this is the first time ever in my life that I've had bloody discharge. Also I still have pain while laying on my stomach, and my lower back hurts as well. Should I take a pregnancy test, and if so, when? more

Voting Question: How long before going to a doctor for vomiting and stomach cramps?

My husband has had non-stop stomach pain for the last 17 hours. He describes it as a burning pain. He woke up to this at 5:30 this morning with vomiting starting about a half hour later. He hasn't thrown up in the last 4 hours at least, but the stomach pain is relentless. He also has a low grade fever of 99.7 It's probably a virus or something he ate My question is...when is a stomach ache or *burning serious? He's the type who waits until he's half dead before he goes to a doctor, but I'm thinking if he isn't better by tomorrow morning it could be more serious than some virus and needs medical attention. more

Well, I recently (I started May 13th) got a new job taking care of animals. It's all great, but it's pretty ... vigorous. What I mean is I'm constantly bending, twisting, lifting heavy things (50lbs), moving things, reaching, etc. etc. SO about a week ago my lower back on the right side started hurting. It's hurt quietly in the background every day since it started, but it hasn't been too bad at all. My hip on that side also hurt, but only after I sat down and then got back up, then like 2 minutes after getting up it'd stop. Anyway, last night when I went to bed everything was still that way- it hurt a little, nothing to be concerned about. However, I woke up in the middle of the night and it hurt so bad I literally could hardly get up. It hurts to just stand, it hurts to sit, and it especially hurts to bend over or lift my legs. When I say especially I mean those things are almost impossible to do. There is a constant dull ache if I am not moving, but when I do move it's like this sharp stabbing pain right in that spot in my back. It hurts so bad it's making my stomach hurt!!!!! So my question is a) do you think this is a pulled muscle and b) what should I do for it? I had to call in sick to work today b/c there's no way I could do the things I'm supposed to, but I don't want to miss any more days of work! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Period type cramps for the passed 3 days now, also discomfort in lower back. Am I far away from labour now?

I know no-one can really know what's going on but did anyone else feel this way? I can't get comfortable at all when the pains start, whether in my back or stomach. I've had no loss yet of my mucus plug that I have noticed. I'm 37+3 today and getting induced at 39 weeks (booking the date and time on Wed next week) if I haven't gone before then. I had a midwife appointment yesterday and she said I may go before that but that there was no real way of knowing even with twins. I'm hoping the end is near now and I don't think I can cope until 39 weeks. Last night I had hardly any sleep as my legs are aching so much and my hips are getting quite painful now too. I have been up since 5.45am because of the discomfort :( more

today I am 12 weeks pregnant ( well I hope :) ) I have an ultrasound booked next wednesday, that was the earliest I could get in. For the last two days I have been getting all sorts of weird pains. some feel like period cramps, some are sharp in my back, and then some where my ovaries are, some feel like I have a stitch, and some are just like an all over ache in my stomach, they just come and go. has anybody else had these sort of pains in early pregnancy? every time I go to the doctor they tell me that as Long as I am not bleeding then I have to wait till my ultrasound to see if all is ok. so since I have another week to wait, I thought I'd see if anybody else out there feels strange pains all over, also my lower abdomen is very tender to touch. more

My boyfriend and I had sex multiple times during the weeks before I was supposed to get my period (including the night before). I am on birth control but I had accidentally forgotten to take my pill a few days throughout the month so it hasn't been very effective. A little over a week ago I was having cramps really bad (worse than normal) and I had what I think was my period for 3 or 4 days (not my normal 5 days). However it was more than just spotting though. Ever since I stopped bleeding I've felt nausea and painful stomach aches throughout the day, often so bad I feel like vomiting. I have also experienced mood swings, fatigue, constipation, and lower back pain. My breasts have not been noticeably sore though. Could I be pregnant? If so, when should I take the test?We use a condom but once it slipped off and he came on my leg and another time he came on the sheets which we fell asleep on after. more

Yesterday at about 10:00pm i was watching television when this really bad pain started in the lower right of my abdomen it felt like someone was stabbing me. Open Question: 39 weeks pregnant and having a crampy feeling in my lower stomach and back...?

It started last night around 11. It doesn't hurt its just more of an ache rather than a pain. I have also had a head ache the past 2 days.My baby was also moving around alot. At my last appointment I hadn't dilated any and the baby hadn't dropped all the way. I have an appointment tomorrow but I was just wanting to know if anyone else has felt this before and if they went into labor soon.
