Open Question: Possibly Pregnant w/ Negative Hpt ???? Is it still too soon to test??? PLEAASE HELP?

Ok so here is my original post. Below you will see the update... Ok. So my periods are really regular every 31 days. I always know when I ovulate because I have the abdominal area pain, and the cm mucus changes to strechy egg white consistency. Confirmed by online ovulation calendars as well. I ovulated on 6/19, I also had the normal ovulation symptoms. Late that night I had sex. Since 2 dpo I have had symptoms like nausea, headaches, breast tenderness and blue veins on my arm chest and a large one that is raised going down to my breast. My period is suppose to be due tomorrow. But I have alot of creamy white lotion like cervical mucus. I had a lab blood test 5 dpo it was negative. I also did two hpts the last one was this last sunday still negative. I never get pms symptoms like this especially very close to ovulation. If anything its some cramping a few days before. But I dont know what to think. Any ideas? * 3 days ago * - 23 hours left to answer. Additional Details Ok so I took a hpt and there was a very faint negative line, generic store brand. Boobs still very sore, even just sitting down. My period should be due tomorrow. 2 days ago UPDATE My period was due yesterday I am almost two days late. Today I took a hpt and it was negative. I also had a visit with my ob gyn that didnt go to well first he was an hr late. Second he was rushing me. He told me for my headaches and naseau to see my primary care dr. Than he did a breast exam, asked if I had breast cancer in the family andtold me to take vitamin E and flax seed. He said there was a 5% chance of being pregnant. He didnt even tell me why my breast have been painful for the past two wks. Anyways on to my symptoms I have slight cramping (like im going to get my period), bloating, headaches on and off, breast pain still, and I feel some pains in the lower pelvic area going to my leg (upper thigh kind of) hard to explain. ANYWAYS my ? is this although I am almost 2 days late on my period could it still be possible that HCG levels wont show till later??? Thank you more

Open Question: I'm a new mom and I'm concerned about my 4week old's excessive crying when we lie her down to sleep.?

Every time we lay her down to sleep she cries uncontrollably until one of us picks her up again. As soon as we pick her up she is totally fine. We even wait until she's asleep in our arms and then ease her into her bassinet but she'll wake up almost immediately. They've changed her formula 3x. I tried to breastfeed for a month but it didn't work out. She's very fussy after feedings and I can tell that she's in pain. I hate that I don't have an answer and I can't fix it for her. We've been back and forth to the doctor since she came home from the hospital. Doctor's think that it's GERD but the zantac didn't help and neither is the prevacid. She presents some symptoms of colic but the fact that she's content as long as someone is holding her I can't understand along with the fact that she's fussy after feedings. She's been on Similac advanced, Isomil (soy) and Alimentum. They sent us to the children's hospital yesterday for an abdominal ultrasound but it came back normal so now she has to go back for an upper GI next week. I've heard of fussy babies but even her doctor says this isn't normal but they don't have an answer for me. Does anyone have any advice??? more

Resolved Question: Problems with my liver?

I got my gallbladder removed about 5 months ago after having severe upper abdominal pains since I had my last daughter.. When I went into the hospital before they found out I had gallstones they said my liver wasn't working properly. I thought that may have something to do with the reason I could take 6 double straight shots of vodka and feel nothing. I used to be able to take 10 shots and be on my knees. (I'm not an alcoholic; I only drank that much like every other week for about 3 months.. and this was back in oct of 08.) But I didn't mention it to the doctors. Now after having my gallbladder removed, I still have the same pain, just not as intense. But I have gained a lot of weight since then and pills don't seem to go through my body like they used to. For example, I can take my percocets and feel nothing at all; but I used to. Is it possible for my liver to be blocking stuff to pass through.. could that explain the pain I still have, the weight gain, and the reason why the alcohol isn't passing through right? I know I should ask a doctor but I don't have insurance. If worse comes to worse, I will go to the ER.I wanted you let you know that I never took percocet with alcohol. I don't think my drinking had anything to do with this problem because I never had any alcohol during my pregnancy and I didn't get the pain until after I gave birth. I would get the pain randomly.. not just after drinking. All I am saying is, I used to be able to have quite a few straight shots and either be really buzzed or be on my knees and be able to take percocets and feel something from them. I got codeine and percocet while I was in the hospital during my surgery for the gallbladder removal and then they gave me vicodin for when I got out. I couldn't feel anything from those either. And I should.Oh and also, I had my daughter May 08.. and had the surgery in Feb 09. I haven't had any alcohol whatsoever since the surgery. more

Open Question: can any body tell me what these symptoms may indicate?

about a year ago i realized that i had some muscle twitching. As the month went by they became more frequent and noticeable. to make matters worst some other symptoms developed. fatigue, muscle ache and weakness ALL OVER my body, redness and swelling in my feet during small exercise during the day as simple as walking a few blocks. lack of bowel moment with no pain, pain in the upper left quadrant of the abdominal cavity, tingling in my hands and feet, sensitivity to light that eventually leads to migraines. I have been to doctors but they cant find anything wrong with e and i think my docs thinks im making up my symptoms however i am assured that i am not and that they are just getting worst. i been on a birth control ( implanon). i just cant seem to find anything online or with any specialist i visited, can anybody help me please?I am 19 years oldI have seen a neurologist and had an MRI and it came back fine more

Open Question: how do i get over being a hypocondriac?

well its been going on for about a year after i saw a tv show on TLC about a man with no face and how he got it from a rare type of mold, so i was interested with that and i looked up his disease and i looked at the symptoms, i had like 3 out of the list and i got scared (lol ya now that i think about this it was very stupid) and well just about a week ago my mom got a call from the doctor saying she may have pancreotic cancer and they found a mass on her pancreas, and well the doctor called back and she tested negative for any tumors or cancer so i was happy about that and i googled the symptoms for pancreatic cancer and i have 1 of the symptoms (pain in upper abdominal) and now i truely think i have cancer even when i know i dont...i didnt even match any of the "causes" except for 1, it said it was more common in people over 60 (im 15) more common in african americans (i am hispanic) more common in obese people (im skinny) the only thing i matched for was eating alot of red meat (fast food but who doesnt these days?) sooo ya my question is, how do i get over this? its really bothering me more

Open Question: Constant Abdominal Pain?

I've had abdominal pain for the last two years, and it's usually constant. I've been multiple doctors, and i've had multiple tests, but they can't seem to figure out what it is. Weird, eh? Anyways, my stomach always seems upset. I always get naseaus after i eat, but tums usually work. The pain is in my upper stomach, and down my sides. It's usually gas though... I know that i'm lactose intolarent, so i try to stay away from those foods. Does anybody have the same symptoms, or know what i may have. P.S. It isn't IBS, ulcers, or GERD. more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know what these symptoms are?! I'm SO SICK!?

Ok about a week ago I started getting extreme nausea. It's gotten worse and has turned into lower and upper abdominal cramps with random nausea and my skin feels really really warm but I don't have a fever. I'm getting brown spotting between my periods. I'm tired alot of the time, and having pains in my shoulders and back. I went to the doctor and she said I had excess mucus (down there) and I slight odor. She thinks I may have chlamydia..but that's impossible. Do these symptoms appear in any other infection or disease? more

Open Question: Abdominal pain/soreness 8 months postpartum?

I had my beautiful baby girl 8 months ago. The pregancy was somewhat complicated with pre-eclampsia, a severe kidney infection and I am anemic, so I had to have a blood transfusion. For the past eight months, though, I've had a nagging pain across my upper abdomen, right up under my ribs and it goes into the left side of my back also. It feels sore, almost like the pain I had from my kidney infection-just across my upper abdomen. I have had three full body scans since giving birth to make sure my kidney is ok, etc. and everything is fine. Does anyone know what this soreness might be? I keep getting the "it took nine months to carry the baby and it'll take at least nine months to get back to normal" answer from everyone, but I just want some more opinions. 5 points best answer!! more

Open Question: Am I having cancer......?

I have been going through some stomach problems ever since I joined a job (2 years as of now). I was doing pretty much fine until recently I had an episode of gastric disorder. I have consulted a gastroenterologist multiple times lately and he says I am all fine. But the recent attack had given me a lot of anxiety. I am due to go for my MS to the USA, away from my family, for two years. Now all sorts of horrible thoughts are coming to mind. I feel as if I am suffering from some form of stomach or liver cancer. These days my appetite is normal and I am okay except that I feel occasional pain in my lower abdomen and sometimes a bit discomfort in my right upper abdominal area. I am also feeling sort of lightheadedness or dizziness for the past one week. I am 24 years old. Am I having anything dreadful? Should I consult a different doctor? I am not able to concentrate on my work due to excessive worries. Am I showing any tendencies of a life-threatening condition? Please help. I am in great need of that. more

Open Question: 9 Weeks Pregnant, and moderate abdominal pain.?

I'm 8-9 weeks along now, but I've been experiencing chest discomfort, and aches riddling all through my stomach (From the bottom of the rib cage, to my pelvis). I know the pelvis tightening is just my uterus expanding and pulling, but the chest pain is baffling me, along with the upper abdominal pain. I'm 20, overweight and this is my first pregnancy.I have been feeling heartburn, but that feels different. This is kind of towards the left side of my sternum. It was a painful pressure, so trapped gas could be a possibility--I've been having ALOT of gas come up, which I've been told was normal. . . Haha, sorry, worried mommy, first baby, you know how it is, right? My doctor's appointment isn't until the 9th. more

Voting Question: What kind of tests should I ask for to try and find a reason for my menstrual issues?

My symptoms include: -Exhaustion (it takes a sincere effort to make myself get out of bed and go to school, work, even see friends) -Blood clots ranging in size from dime to half dollar (sometimes it hurts a little when one of the blood clots is coming out) -Heavy flow the first few days....to the point where I have to wake up in the middle of the night to change my pad -Mood swings....anger and crying over things during my period that wouldn't bother me normally -Pain in my back and the upper portion of my legs (especially my hamstrings) -a LOT of bloating....i got up 1-2 jean sizes. This stuff is really affecting my life and making it hard for me to function. I was put on BC, which caused me to have extremely painful abdominal cramping and depressive mood swings (normally I'm happy, laughing, and laid back). I pretty much am going to have to walk in to the Gyno at my University medical clinic and tell them what tests to do. the first time I went about this stuff, they didn't even do a bi-manual exam Just wrote a rx for the BC after i told them what I was experiencing. Any suggestions of what could be wrong/things to test for. After I started having problems with the BC I called and spoke to the doc. I was told that extremely painful abdominal cramping and crazy irregular periods were normal and that I should just stay on the pill. I stopped taking it after 6 months b/c the pain was too much to deal with. These symptoms are NOT NORMAL period stuff. I can deal with minor cramps, a little bloating, and some crabbiness. These symptoms are interfering with living my normal life. I can't workout. I pull myself out of bed for class or work and then go home and have to lay in bed all day. This is NOT ok. The University clinic gyno wouldn't even do an exam on me when I went...I'm talking a normal yearly exam. I can't go to a clinic outside of the University without a referral from the University clinic. more

Voting Question: Period problems.....?

I'm in college and my only option for a doctor/gyno is the university medical center on campus (off campus doctors offices won't see a university student without a referral from the campus clinic). I went to the women's clinic because of problems during my period. I get extremely exhausted to the point where it takes a LOT of effort to function (which sucks for school and makes studying a pain), I have back and upper leg pain (kind of muscle aches.... like how it feels when you have pulled muscles), I have blood clots during the first few days that range in size from a dime to silver dollar size. I also feel like my period is unusually heavy in the beginning, I have to wake up in the middle of the night to change my pad or I'll wake up with a gross mess. I get extremely cranky and one wrong thing and I can be in tears. This has been happening for the last few years with all of these symptoms getting increasingly worse. The one good thing about my periods is that they've always been like clockwork coming at exactly when I think they will lasting the exact number of days I expect. I told the University clinic nurse all of this information. They immediately ask me how many sexual partners I've had in my life, the age I lost my virginity, the last time I had sex and if I could possibly be pregnant. Then when the doctor came in I told them that I feel like I loose a week of my life because of my period and that my symptoms have REALLY been interfering with my life. The doctor says "well you know what we usually do for this don't you", I have no clue....then she says "I'm gonna start you on birth control". So I've heard that people are put on the pill to help with period issues, and I trusted the doctor. I went in there expecting to maybe have some routine bloodwork run, a PAP smear/full exam done, and maybe a urine test...but they did none of that. I was never actually physically examined. I was put on sprintec (b/c it's cheap and was supposed to help with my moods). IT WAS HELL. I was on it for 6 months and I never had a regular period. I'd get 2 periods a month, some lasting 2 weeks at a time. I experienced severe abdominal cramping which on more than one occasion left me curled in a ball crying hysterically. It felt like someone was wringing my uterus out like a dishtowel. I've never experienced abdominal cramping that severe or intense in my life. I called the medical clinic and left a message for the clinic's gyno to call me back listing the problems I was having. I was told that what I was experiencing was normal and I should just "stick it out a couple months" until my "body gets used to the hormones in the pill". It never got better. I noticed that while on the pill I went from being a generally upbeat, fun, happy person who laughed all the time to someone who cried and got depressed over everything. I tried talking to the university gyno about it and was told it was all normal while my body was adjusting to the BC. After 6 months...I couldn't take it anymore and stopped taking the BC. I'm frustrated b/c I feel like the doctor didn't take me seriously. I know that my symptoms ARE NOT NORMAL....and I wouldn't have gone to the doctor over normal PMS...but my period is REALLY interfering with my everyday life. For a week each month I barely have the energy to get out of bed, I can't workout because of the back and leg pain, I go off on EVERYONE around me because I feel so bad physically....which makes me feel like a complete and utter bitch. I don't know what could be wrong. I don't know what kinds of tests I should ask for (when I had the flu....they tried to give me antibiotics for "food poisoning"....I demanded to have a rapid flu test...which came back positive....and the doc to said "well..I was wrong about the food poisoning...good thing you made me think to test you for the flu....these antibiotics wouldn't have helped you at all). What should I ask them to do? I know they should have done a "yearly" exam and maybe some bloodwork....I don't know what could be wrong. anyone been through symptoms like this? more

Resolved Question: Why am I being treated like a "Drug Seeker"?

I have had nausea, vomiting, upper right quadrant abdominal pain (severe) and loose bowels for over a year and have been hospitalized and visited ER's because of this. I know that many ER visits can cause suspicion, and I can empathize, but I have been treated SO badly by doctors! I've been subjected to many painful tests and surgeries (gallbladder out, ERCPs, endoscopy, CT scans, MRIs, NG tubes down the nose and into the stomach among others) and they've found NOTHING except a highly dilated bile duct and strictures in my liver ducts. I'm being treated like a "faker" (malingering) when asking for pain relief (I'm in PAIN) and I don't know what to do! I thought I had the right to not be in pain...I have a Primary care Physician and a Gastroenterologist.I understand the plight of the ER, but I do have a PCM and Specialist (and they know this). I still don't think I should be treated poorly. Overworked is no excuse. Their profession is to help. If they don't feel they can be a respectful, caring and a helpful doctor, maybe they should look for other work. (I'm sorry, but I am so frustrated!).Oh, and the ER didn't perform the tests- my specialist did. I'm not wasting their time or money. more

Resolved Question: Severe abdominal pain and diarrhea?

Ever since I was about thirteen (i'm now 25) I have gotten crippling pain in the lower left part of my abdomen with horrible diarrhea. I had an upper gi and colonoscopy at 14 and have been to the ER recently and they find nothing and the ER staff make me feel as if it is all in my head. I know that its not and I am stuck sitting in my bed not able to move because of how bad the pain is. I just want to see if anyone else has had this problem or what I may be able to do to be a normal person againThanks Angela... I have firgured out the ER after going there NUMEROUS times for the same problem and everytime they do their tests and always come up empty handed. They diagnosed me as having IBS which I had been diagnosed with before any of these problems started it gets so frustrating! I just want to know what is wrong with my stomachSo many thanks to those of you that have answered! I am going to call my doctor to get the name of a gastroenterologist. I know its not my gallbladder that came out in 2007 when my daughter was a month old. I know its not IBS the medication they gave me for that did absolutely nothing to help at all! more

Everything was back to normal. Until June 7 2009 1am; that i didnt drink water at all & my boyfriend fingered me it was the first time he did that. . . but after we were done i had to use the bathroom since i was holding it from a long time ago & when i peed my urine smelled really bad. I was guessing i had to drink water so i did. I went to sleep & i woke up around the afternoon & i first thing i did was pee my urine still smelled bad & i got a little worried . I started drinking alot more water & it was a little better . Resolved Question: Is this food poisoning?

I went to Download Festival over the weekend, which is obv not the most sanitary of environments and involves eating loads of fast food/super grotty toilets etc. On sunday evening I started getting abdominal pain in my upper-ish stomach. At first I thought it was heartburn/indigestion but it gradually got worse and worse and I had to go back to my tent. I started puking loads. Hadn't been drinking etc. The puking was gross but the worst part was the belly pains, it was major. By the end of the night the vomiting had finished but the pain in my stomach hasn't lifted a bit. My friend said it was probably food poisoning but I've never once had diarrhea and I know that's often a symptom. I've never had food poisoning before so I don't know if thats what this is. Is it normal for all other symptoms to disappear but still have crampy guts? It's now wednesday and they hurt so much I can hardly stand straight and can't really walk around as it hurts. :( Boo. more

Resolved Question: high blood pressure question(36 weeks) really long but please read?

for the past couple of weeks i've had high blood pressure so they put me on bed rest because of gestational hypertension. last friday i was having severe upper abdominal pain and callled and they told me to come in to get checked, they said i was dehydarated and to stay on bed rest. i had my last appointment wednesday and they sent me into l&d for more monitoring, welllll let's just say i've been having headaches, blurred vision, high blood pressure, swelling but since i don't have protein in my urine they sent me home saying" we expect this high blood pressure from you so just stay in bed" it never got lower than 150/85 and at one point was 181/101. then a couple hours after being home i collapsed on the couch because my back and stomach were so bad and i was having trouble breathing and callled the ambulance went in, saw the same nurse, she said it was the flu since i don't have protein in my urine and sent me home. it just doesn't seem right. i feel like they should induce me( i know it's not the best) because of all these complications. i'm worried about me health and most of all the babies health. i don't want to wait longer and end up having pre eclampsia develop since i'm already borderline. what do you think? should i not be so worried? should they be doing something? more

Resolved Question: UPPER RIGHT Abdominal Pain INTERmittently, If it's not Gallstones what can it be?

I was checked for gallstones in 2007 when i had a bad painful attack. I couldn't breath in. But then about 3 or 2 weeks ago, the stabs are a bit more painful ... Could it be cause i drank Regular milk?? and i have been eating meat? I think the doctor once told me i could have Lactose intolerance . I've also noticed when i eat large meals,, i start getting this pain. MY MOTHER says it's just air. but i don't know. Could it be just air, could it be esophagus problems or nerve problems or should i get rechecked for gallstones?im male latino age 29 more

I can just be sitting and I will hear and feel fluid coming up my throat it always goes back down sometimes it makes me cough for no reason because the fluids so close. When I move my neck left and right I hear the same noise like there's fluid stored in my neck or something... it sounds similar to cracking but it's not.. it's the same exact noise I get when I hear fluid coming up my throat. The noise or fluid when I move my neck sounds like it's coming from the back of my throat. When I push on my ribs I get the same noise and bones cracking... I've noticed I get shooting chest pain and I have to crack my back to get it to go away. If I move my arms up in the air I hear the same noise... this happens 24/7 there is not a second where I can move my neck with no fluid/noise. I've been getting random abdominal pain all over and I've noticed my stomach hurts real bad before going number 2 then the pressures relieved. My bones are cracking a lot more and I feel like this fluid whatever it is.. is spreading all over... first I heard it in my shoulder... then it moved to my neck and my shoulder (a constant noise) now I have it in my back. All of the noise sounds like it's coming from the back of my throat... I've noticed my bowel movements smell horrid much more then normal and the texture of my poo changes a lot. Keep in mind 2 months ago I've had a colonscopy and upper endoscopy both showed nothing I'm 23/m. I'm getting constant back pain when has to be relived by arching my back a lot of the time when I do it I can hear the noises coming from the back of my throat. When I move my neck left/right or in a 360 I hear a similar to cracking noise but it shoulds like trapped fluid or something what could this be.... I deal with this 24/7 these symptoms are constant and never let up... I have no health insurance to see a doctor...no clinics in my area : ( Could this be gallbladder related whats your opinion when my i move neck even in the slightest I hear the same noise I get when fluids coming up my throat it sounds similar to pop rocks fizzing. 13 minutes ago My stomach is constantly in pain and tenderness is moving all over it never stays in one spot. I've had these symptoms slowly getting worse for the last year and now it's the point where I'm in massive pain every second of the day should I go to the hospital and will they admit me? 9 minutes ago Whatever this fluid is.. is making my stomach go nuts... constant grumbling loud sqealing noises, causing back pain that can only be relieved by the arching of my back. 6 minutes ago I've had this problem for the last 8 months.. recently it has gotten like 100 times worse and keeps getting worse. These symptoms do not go away even for 1 second during any given day. Will a hospital admit me to treat this I'm in pain and the pain is constant... constant meaning it hasn't diminished in the last 3 months only gotten worse. more

Resolved Question: could i be pregnant...someone help?

I'm always hungry...for example I ate an hour ago and now i feel like i'm starving. If I am I would be about 3-4 weeks. I've been having stomach pains and lower abdominal cramps and cramping on my upper legs next to my crotch. If I am should I have gained weight by now cause I've not gained, I've actually lost 5 pounds. I also have more discharge which is unusual. I had my period a week and a half ago so its not that, and i've also taken 2 pregnancy tests which came out negative. I've also been having more gas then usual. more

Resolved Question: Apparently, I had appendicitis for ONE YEAR. Is this even possible?

Hey, I'm a 17 year old teenage girl. Here's what happened: For the past year, I've been getting very severe upper abdominal pains every 6 to 10 weeks. They only lasted a day, but they were extremely painful, and I would spend the entire day vomiting non-stop. First, we thought it was the stomach flu. Then, the doctor suspected it was fat in the liver. Three days ago, a different doctor told me it's definitely a bowel disorder (probably Crohn's). Two days ago, these abdominal pains struck again. BUT THIS TIME, they moved to the lower right side of my abdomen. So, the surgeon removed my appendix. The pain is gone now. (Thank goodness!) But here's the part I'm worried about: My parents asked the surgeon about my frequent abdominal pains. He said, "I am 95% sure that each time she had an abdominal attack, it was appendicitis. Appendicitis typically begins at the top of the abdomen and then moves downward. What happened with your daughter is that the appendicitis infection would START, but somehow, it was aborted. Her body fought it off before it could progress any further. Today was the first time the pain finally reached the appendix." Is this possible?! My body has been fighting off a potential appendix infection for a WHOLE YEAR? more

Resolved Question: What can I do when I feel I have a medical emergency and yet the two closest hospital ERs will not treat me?

Friday I had slight abdominal pain. Saturday I woke with very intense abdominal pain. I went to my doc (a doc in a box). He did blood work and x-rays and said my stools were stalled and that my white blood cell count was 13,100, and he told to me that this level indicates an infection. I'd had a normal bowle movement the night before at 10:00PM so I questioned the part about be stopped up, but nonetheless, I followed his orders which were to drink an entire bottle of Mg Citrate, take Dulcolax, Cipro 500 mg bid, Flagyl 500 mg tid. A few hours later, I was undeniably in the worst pain of my life, and I am a 38 year old white male who has had a hemroidectomy, wisdom teeth removed and ingrown toe nails removed. I called 911. They took me to the closest hospital which is a fairly large hospital ~4 miles away. I live in an area with a metropolitan population of ~300,000. Everyone in the ER, nurses and doctor alike, seemed to mock me and act as though I was faking the entire night. The doc was quite snide with me. At shift change (7:00AM), they released me. I was feeling only slightly better, probably because of the morphine they'd administered ~7 hours earlier. I saw the doc a total of maybe 5 minutes that night. I could not believe they'd done so little and even seemed to be making fun of me and even torturing me all night. The nurse merely told me to change stool softners (to Colace) and laxative (to Miralax), and they sent me home. I had no ride or anything. Then Sunday night, I was in such intense abdominal pain again that I thought surely I was dying. This time I drove myself to the areas other hospital ER. I got there at 10:00PM. I was taken back at 1:00AM. I was given nearly the same treatment as at the earlier hospital except I was explicitly told by both the nurse and the doc that I was "putting on a show" and to "man it up." They too told me I was stopped up and gave me an enema (even though I'd had a bowl movement at 7:30PM). When they tried to release me at 7:00am, I threw a fit, and they finally admitted me. Upon admission, I was x-rayed and CT scans were taken w/ and w/o contrast, and I drank GoLYTELY that (Monday) night, and the next (Tuesday) morning, I was giving an upper and lower GI scope. The doc said I had ulcers in my rectum, esophagus and stomach, none bleeding. I DO NOT EVEN HURT IN THESE AREAS!!! I hurt in an ~4" radius circle around my belly button -- everywhere within that circle. I think of the rectum as further down and further dorsal. Also, I think of the esophagus and stomach even as being above the bottom of the sternum. They released me telling me to take 40 mg Nexxium bid (which my insurance will not pay for and is $370!), "GI Cocktail" 40 ml every 8 hrs PRN, dilaudid 2 mg every 6 hrs PRN and compezine 10 mg tid (I HAVE NO NAUSEA!!! I told them this several times at the hospital. I am not taking this.) The doc told me to discontinue the antibiotics, even though the nurse had told me my white blood cell count had climbed to over 18,000. (I have no idea what these numbers mean. I wiki'd WBC and it speaks of numbers on the order of something like 6 billion per liter??? My best guess is that when they say "18,000," they are either dropping some zeros or stating the content in a smaller volume???) I feel the docs are off base with my diagnosis and treatment and also feel that no medical professional will take me seriously. They say things look normal on x-rays and CTs, and that I have a few ulcers that aren't bleeding in areas that I am not even hurting. As far as I know all but my WBC and Potassium are normal (they had me on KCl bags the whole saty in the hospital, and the nurse said my Poattasium was low.) How do I get the help I so urgently need? more

Voting Question: Upper abdominal pain at 19 weeks pregnant?

I am 19 weeks pregnant and last night I started just having some back pains, which I know is normal, but then I woke up in the middle of the night and had really sharp pains in the center of my upper abdomen. It was pretty painful and I couldn't sleep and couldn't find any position that helped. It was painful for several hours before the pain subsided. Anyone else experience this and know if I should be concerned? more

Voting Question: Is it possible my gall bladder is causing my problems?

I have gastro problems for sometime now such as frequent gas, loose stools, abdominal cramps, and indigestion. Every couple of weeks I used to get a strong pain in my upper mid abdominal section with this extreme pain that felt like I was being stabbed over and over with a dull but somewhat burning sensation. That would get so bad that my back would become extremely sore to the point that I would have to lay down and I could barely move. I thought for the longest time it was bloating but from what I'm reading on gall bladders is sounds a lot like a gall bladder attack is this possible? {My family has a history of gall bladder problems and I'm a male.} Also I remember these episodes started happening very frequently to the point that it was almost everyday and my gastro symptoms got much worse until I got on my medication and I started feeling much better and having less problems. And could this be causing my gastro symptoms also? Please any help is appreciated.I've been to the doctor and have had extensive tests done endoscopy, colonoscopy, tested clear for crohns, uc, and so forth. I saw a specialist who is one of the best in the mid west and I asked him about IBS and he said its just a diagnoses from a lazy doctor and it doesn't really exist. Which I agree I don't really believe in IBS. The reason I haven't seen him again is because its like 3 months in between visits so I gave up. I have always been able to trace these attacks to eating something fatty like pizza hut, mcdonalds sometimes the attacks will start minutes after I'm done eating and go all night till I wake up the next morning then there usually gone but my stomach is still extremely sensitive so I still have to watch what I eat. But as for my loose stools and diarrhea I have never been able to pin point where that comes from but I usually only get explosive diarrhea when I eat something fatty I notice. more

Voting Question: Overall Aches and Chest Pains.?

Okay so this is nothing new, but ive been having numerous symptoms as of late. Symptoms: Chest Pain (mostly dull, varying all over chest. sometimes heart region, sometimes upper, sometimes sides) Palpitations (not always, but sometimes) Headaches (minor and not everyday, maybe once every few days) Abdominal pain (seems to help a little if im not hungry or just ate) Very sore overall in back and somewhat in arms. Ive been stressed alot lately thinking that i may be having a heart attack and ive also been stressing about a few other things too. Ive also had some difficulties sleeping because of my pains and aches. Also, a relative told me to look into panic attacks and many of the symptoms matched up. Could i be having a combo of stress and panic attacks? Ive been blood tested, chest xrayed and ekg'ed, all being good. What are your opinions? more

Voting Question: This stomach and back pain won't go away. What is it?

Hello-- I posted a question about a week back about some abdominal pain I have been experiencing. It has been going on for almost 2 weeks now, and I don't know what else to do. It is a cramping pain in my upper abdomen, and pain in my upper back. The pain in my back increased greatly yesterday... It feels like a very sharp pain on both sides of my spine. I don't have much of an appetite, and have only experienced nausea for one day. My bowels have not been usual, so I was thinking I could be constipated. Could this be causing so much pain? and why when I took the laxatives did the pain come right back? Also, I have been sleeping pretty well, except for one night, where the pain was a 10! In the past I have had an ultrasound to rule out Gallstones, and have had many blood test to rule out my pancreas, anemia, etc... Tomorrow, I will be having a gastroscopy, to see if I have an ulcer? If they don't find anything I don't know what steps to take next? I have not been able to work, or really eat, so I need to figure out what's wrong. Thanks:) more

Resolved Question: Going to the Dr., but my lower right side has an intermittent pain. Could this be due to dehydration?

Obviously, I'm going to the Dr. but has anyone out there has problems like this. My lower right abdominal region has this intermittent pain-sometimes on my side, sometimes in my upper right leg. It goes away so I forget about it. But it seems to bother me when I am sitting. Should I be concerned? I mean, when I make my Dr. appointment, should I try to get in ASAP or do you think it's okay if it's not right away? more

Voting Question: What is causing my chronic chest pain?

I am a 32 year old healthy female. I have had ongoing chest pain since January. It all started on Christmas Day with a visit to the ER because the pain was so heavy in the centre of my chest and I felt dizzy and out of it. Ever since the pain has changed into a sharp shooting pain that starts right in the centre and shoots toward the left shoulder/arm pit area. Sometimes the pain is just always dull and achy in that same area. I wake up with the pain. It sometimes goes away for 2-3 days and then resurfaces. The pain aches through to my left shoulder blade. Sometimes I get a rushing feeling in my left chest under my breast. I also have a pain that comes and goes on the right side, it is directly tied to breathing and movement unlike the left side pain. Here is the kicker...I have had a ton of testing done and feel like I have explored as many options as possible. These include; - ECG, EKG, echocardiogram, nuclear stress test (result- Right Bundle Branch Block which shouldn't cause any pain) - thyroid ultrasound (result- small nodule on left side that is barely visible and not of concern, thyroid hormone levels are within normal range) -abdominal ultrasound, upper GI, h. pylori test, endoscopy (results - all normal) -lung xrays (results-normal) - CT scan of head (result-fluid in sinuses) -sigmoidoscopy (result - ulcerative proctitis diagnosed over 7 years ago and under control) -food sensitivities test (result- severe and moderate intolerances to a number of foods, on special detox diet to remove these items, detoxing for approx. 2 weeks to date) -blood work galore (results- all normal) I have noticed other symptoms which may or may not be related. They include; fatigue, shakiness/tremors in arms and legs, lower back pain, pain in right calf and knee, irregular and frequent periods, tender breasts all the time, frequent sinus problems. If anyone can shed any light on what they think could be causing the pain or what else I could have checked. I am tired of being told it is anxiety as I feel very strongly that the only anxiety I have has been caused by this pain. Thanks and sorry to be so lengthy! more

Resolved Question: Upper abdominal pain the morning after consuming alcohol?

I'm not too big of a drinker, but a couple days ago I had 2 half-cups of Smirnoff mixed with orange juice and a half cup of whiskey and coke. I ended up throwing up that night a couple times, and when i woke up in the morning it felt as if I had just done sit-ups the day before. It's not a sharp, stabbing, or unbearable pain, just a soreness comparable to when you do sit-ups or crunches. This was 2 days ago and my upper abs are still pretty sore when i flex them, any idea what this may be? more

Resolved Question: What is causing my severe abdominal and rib pain?

I am a female in my young twenties. I went to the hospital about 2 weeks ago with a really sharp pain in my upper left abdomen (just left of the center of my abdomen), right under my rib cage. They did blood work and an ultrasound and said i had a kidney infection and gave me antibiotics. A week later, after finishing my antibiotics and now having pain throughout my abdomen, i went back to the hospital. By the time i went back to the hospital, the pain was everywhere and constant, with the worse spots being my upper left and lower right stomach. They did more blood work and a CATscan and found nothing. They said my kidneys and gallbladder were slightly swollen but there were no stones. The pain has been constant for 2 weeks, sometimes it gets worse, but at all times there is some pain. The pain is now throughout my left rib cage and even my lower back, on the other side of my ribcage. What could be causing this? because the doctors can't tell me much of anything, but I am so sick of hurting! This does not seem to be related to what or when i eat. it doesnt get any worse after i eat. And i have had no nausia, its just sharp pain. They had also done a urine sample and there was blood in my urine, but not much more

Voting Question: Upper right abdominal pain when eating certain foods...?

I have had an odd sensation in my upper right abdomen for about a year and a half now. I have had many food allergies for most of my life, so I chalked it up to that and it never occurred with any real regularity. In the last week or two, I have been feeling it much more. Now, when I eat certain foods, I noticed it specifically with chocolate and things like french fries, it's an uncomfortable pain, almost like a gnawing and/or wincing, but only as I am swallowing these foods. I don't have difficulty swallowing, it's just that the pain is felt in my upper abdomen as I swallow. Also, the pain isn't necessarily bad before or after I eat, and doesn't occur when I eat things like very clean, homemade chicken noodle soup. Any idea what it could be? I went to the ER on Tuesday and they did an abdominal ultrasound to check to see if it was my gallbladder. That came back negative and they prescribed a medication for a peptic ulcer. I thought people had pain with ulcers after eating and can feel them all the time...? I am just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of symptoms like these. Any help is greatly appreciated. more
